Korean BBQ with Phii Denaii and Phii Lina

This is our landlord, Phii Denaii with his wife, Phii Lina. Phii Lina is also the lady who cleans our house, does our laundry AND watches PJ in the mornings while we are at language school. She is great with PJ. We could not ask for better landlords...God has truly blessed us with this couple. The other night they invited us and our neighbors from Holland to their house for a Korean BBQ in celebration of Phii Denaii's younger daughter's 15th birthday. It was SO delicious. Basically it's a lot like fondue. Notice Phii Lina is dipping something into the pot that is sitting on top of hot burning charcoal. They place a piece of fat at the top of the tray and as it melts down over the rest of the pot you cook the pork in it. And then there is some sort of broth in the tray in which you put veggies and kuaytiaw (white noodles). You let it cook a bit and voila...time to eat! Of course this takes some time so we ate for about two and a half hours that night! We enjoyed great conversation and practicing our Thai with our generous and gracious neighbors. Posted by Picasa
